St. Norbert Blanks Fontbonne to Remain Alive at NCAA Regional

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - St. Norbert College kept its season alive for at least one more day with a 7-0 shutout win over Fontbonne University on the second day of the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional at Illinois Wesleyan University.
The Green Knights (18-19) will face the loser of Friday night's Linfield-Anderson game at noon Saturday. Fontbonne saw its season end at 27-12.
Morgan Buboltz put St. Norbert ahead in the first inning with a solo home run. Samantha Gross had an RBI single in the third inning to give the Green Knights a 2-0 lead. Brittany Narges then put the game out of reach with a three-run home run in the fourth inning for a 5-0 advantage.
The Green Knights picked up two insurance runs in the sixth inning, getting RBI singles from Buboltz and Jessica DeMeuse.
Shannen Schmidt allowed just four hits in twirling the complete-game shutout. Schmidt walked two and struck out eight.
St. Norbert had nine hits. DeMeuse was 3-for-3, while Buboltz was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Narges was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
