St. Norbert Splits at Beloit

BELOIT - St. Norbert College opened Midwest Conference action on the baseball diamond with a doubleheader split at Beloit College. The Green Knights took the opener 10-0 before dropping the nightcap 8-7 in 10 innings.

The Green Knights broke open a 1-0 game through five innings with a five-run sixth and a three-run seventh. Jared Yost, Brett Birkholz and Jeremy Gezella each had RBI singles in the sixth, while Mike Wallerich had an RBI double and Kyle Johnsen added a sacrifice fly in the frame.

Tony Jandron worked six innings to get the win for St. Norbert, allowing just three hits with four walks and one strikeout. Adam Frost, Jandron, Wallerich and Birzholz each had two hits for the Green Knights, who had 12 hits in the game.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert held a 5-0 lead through four innings before Beloit rallied with four in the fifth. The Bucs took a 6-5 lead into the ninth but St. Norbert scored one in the top of the ninth to tie it. The Green Knights scored an unearned run in the top of the 10th, but Beloit got a two-out RBI single to retie the game and plated the game-winner on a wild pitch in the bottom half.

Frost, Jandron and Wallerich each had two hits for St. Norbert, which had nine hits in the game.
