DE PERE - St. Norbert College entered its game with UW-Eau Claire perfect on the penalty kill this season, but the Green Knights allowed three Blugolds power-play goals en route to a 5-3 loss in a Norbert Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (6-2, 4-1 NCHA) had a 2-0 lead in the game, scoring twice on a five-minute major power play in the first period after Eau Claire's Jared Williams received a game misconduct for checking from behind. Erik Cooper scored at 9:23, and Cullen Bradshaw added a marker at 12:36.

Eau Claire, which remained unbeaten at 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the NCHA, wasted little time getting back into the game in the second period. Daniel Olszewski scored a power-play goal at 1:41, and Mark Pustin added an even-strength score at 2:52. St. Norbert had two power-play chances late in the second period but couldn't convert.

Eau Claire's Isaiah Bennis scored a power-play goal at 10:34 for a 3-2 lead, but St. Norbert promptly answered at 11:39 to knot the game at 3-3. But the Green Knights couldn't stay out of the penalty box, and Pustin scored a power-play goal with 5:26 remaining in the third period for the game-winning goal. Kurt Weston scored an empty-net goal with 4 seconds left to close out the scoring.

St. Norbert outshot Eau Claire 38-19. The Green Knights were 2-for-6 on the power play, while Eau Claire was 3-for-4.

Brandon Stephenson made 35 saves for Eau Claire, while David Jacobson made 14 stops for the Green Knights.

The second game of the weekend series starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Cornerstone Community Center.
