St. Norbert Grinds Past Monmouth

DE PERE - St. Norbert College used another stingy defensive effort to top Monmouth College 64-52 in a Midwest Conference game on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (8-3, 5-2 MWC), who won their fifth consecutive game, held Monmouth (3-10, 2-6) to just 38 field-goal attempts and forced 21 turnovers. St. Norbert outrebounded Monmouth 40-27, and collected a whopping 24 offensive rebounds to score 17 second-chance points.

St. Norbert built two leads of seven points in the first half, the latter at 27-20 with 5:04 left before halftime, before settling on a 29-26 edge at intermission.

The Green Knights slowly started to pull away in the second half. St. Norbert led 31-28 early in the second half before going on a quick 6-0 spurt to take a 37-28 lead with 15:43 to go on a Brandon Gries jumper.

St. Norbert held the lead at now lower than four points before 3-pointers by Jeremy Paprocki, Gries and Austin Elliott keyed a 9-3 run for a 51-41 edge with 9:00 left. St. Norbert eventually built at 15-point lead with 3:45 remaining and never held less than a 10-point lead the rest of the game.

Gries led St. Norbert with 17 points, while Paprocki canned 13 points. Izaiah Anderson had 10 rebounds, including six offensive, with five points. Andrew Schwoerer had eight rebounds, including seven offensive, with six points. The Green Knights shot 36.9 percent (24-for-65) from the floor.

Monmouth shot 50 percent (19-for-38) from the floor. Wes DeClercq had 14 points to lead the Scots, while Wes Dukeman added 11 points.
