St. Norbert Splits With UW-Platteville

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College salvaged a split of a non-conference doubleheader with UW-Platteville at a chilly Joannes Stadium. The visiting Pioneers claimed the opener 6-4 before the Green Knights rallied to win the nightcap 14-4.

Platteville (16-20) broke open a 3-2 game in the opener with three runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 6-2 lead. St. Norbert scored one run in the fifth but left the bases loaded and added a run in the sixth but would get no closer.

St. Norbert (21-8) had just six hits in the opener, with Alex Byrne getting the only multi-hit game for the hosts at 2-for-4.

The Green Knights broke out of it in the second game, scoring four times in the the third inning an five more times in the fourth inning to build a 10-3 lead. St. Norbert scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to end the game via 10-run rule.

Cory Fuller had an RBI infield single to tie the game at 2-2 in the third. Jared Yost followed with a bases-clearing double into the left field corner for a 5-2 advantage.

In the fourth inning, Adam Frost and Tony Jandron each had RBI singles, while Fuller added a two-run double.

Jandron, Frost and Yost hit safely in both games to all extend their hitting streaks to 18 consecutive games. Fuller and Yost were both 3-for-4 in the nightcap, while Frost was 3-for-5.

Justin Wotachek worked 5 1/3 innings to move to 3-0, allowing four hits, four runs and striking out six. Mike Wallerich allowed just one hit in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
