St. Norbert Drops Two at St. Thomas

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - St. Norbert College opened its 2013 softball season with a doubleheader sweep at the hands of No. 20-ranked University of St. Thomas by scores of 7-0 and 16-3 at the Rosemount Dome.

The Green Knights (0-2) mustered just two hits in the opener, singles by Steph Brunette and MacKenzie Hazen. Shannen Schmidt took the loss, allowing seven runs in 4 1/3 innings.

St. Norbert was done in during the nightcap by an 11-run third inning posted by the Tommies (4-0). Jessica DeMeuse had an RBI single for the Green Knights in the first inning. DeMeuse and Samantha Gross added RBI singles in the fifth inning to plate the other two runs. DeMeuse finished 2-for-2 in the game, with Morgan Buboltz adding a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

Morgan Rusch took the loss in game two, allowing 11 runs on 10 hits in two-plus innings of work.
