St. Norbert Season Ends in NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - St. Norbert College saw its amazing run through the second half of the season come to an end in a 5-2 loss to Plattsburgh State University in a NCAA Division III Tournament quarterfinal game at Stafford Ice Arena.

The Green Knights (18-10-2), ranked No. 8 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, were playing in their first NCAA Tournament in their third season of existence. No. 1 Plattsburgh State (26-0-2) advances to the NCAA Division III Frozen Four next weekend in Superior.

The Cardinals got the early jump, taking a 2-0 lead after the first period. Teal Gove, the nation's leading scorer, tallied the first goal 3 minutes 14 seconds into the game. Chelsea Van Glahn scored a power-play goal with three seconds left in the period for the two-goal advantage.

Plattsburgh State boosted its lead to 4-0 in the second period. Gove scored for the 27th time at 14:54, and Shannon Stewart added her 21st goal of the season at 18:03.

St. Norbert charged late, cutting into the deficit when Zoe Kurth scored unassisted at 8:14 of the third period for her 12th goal of the season. Henriette Ostergaard scored her 16th goal of the season at 16:23, with Kurth assisting. But Plattsburgh salted the game away 45 seconds later on a goal by Emma Rutherford.

Plattsburgh State held a 38-15 shots advantage on St. Norbert. Kaley Gibson made 33 saves for the Green Knights, while Sydney Aveson made 13 stops for the Cardinals. Plattsburgh State was 1-for-4 on the power play, while St. Norbert was 0-for-2.
