St. Norbert Splits Second Day in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - St. Norbert College split its two games at the Rebel Games, losing to Kean University 10-5 before rebounding for a 9-1 win over Fitchburg State College.

The Green Knights (3-3) scored in four of six innings to top Fitchburg State. Abby Gildernick's RBI single in the second inning gave St. Norbert the lead. In the third inning, St. Norbert scored twice when Steph Brunette scored on an error and Morgan Buboltz scored Samantha Gross on an RBI single.

Jessica DeMeuse and Alex Kohnle powered a pair of two-run home runs in the fifth inning. The Green Knights closed out the game with RBI singles from Buboltz and MacKenzie Hazen in the sixth inning.

St. Norbert had 11 hits in the game, with Brunette, Buboltz and Gildernick all collecting two apiece. Morgan Rusch twirled the complete-game win, allowing six hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

Against Kean, St. Norbert held a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning before the Cougars broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning.

Buboltz hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give the Green Knights a 3-0 lead. Kean answered with three runs in the bottom of the second. Gildernick had an RBI single in the third inning, followed by an RBI double from Brunette in the fourth inning, to give St. Norbert its last two runs.

Shannen Schmidt took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing nine hits in 9 2/3 innings with no walks and six strikeouts. Jena Paul went 2-for-3 for St. Norbert.
