Green Knights Power Past Lawrence

APPLETON - St. Norbert College opened the final week of the regular season with two key wins in Midwest Conference play, sweeping Lawrence University 4-1 and 5-1 at Whiting Field.

St. Norbert (15-11, 6-2 MWC) took the early lead in the opener when Morgan Buboltz hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Steph Brunette then scored on a throwing error in the fifth inning. St. Norbert added two more runs in the sixth when Jessica DeMeuse homered and Alex Kohnle had a pinch-hit RBI single.

Shannen Schmidt earned the win for the Green Knights, allowing five hits while striking out seven and not walking a batter. Brunette was 3-for-4 for the Green Knights and was the only player in the game to have multiple hits.

St. Norbert got the early jump again on Lawrence in the nightcap, with Emily Laufer's RBI single in the first inning giving the Green Knights a 1-0 lead. Buboltz forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk in the third inning. The Green Knights broke the game open in the sixth inning, posting three runs on five hits. Brunette had a run-scoring triple, Samantha Gross an RBI single, and Laufer added an RBI single to account for the scoring.

Laufer was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Gross was 2-for-2 and Brunette 2-for-3 as the Green Knights recorded 10 hits. Morgan Rusch earned the win for the Green Knights, allowing seven hits with five walks and two strikeouts to earn the complete-game victory.
