Green Knights Pull Away From Concordia

MEQUON - St. Norbert College won for the 11th time in its last 13 games with a wild 16-9 non-conference win over Concordia-Wisconsin at Kapco Park.

The Green Knights (19-7) and Falcons were tied at 7-7 through five innings before the visitors pulled away. St. Norbert posted four runs in the sixth and seventh innings to build a 15-9 lead and held Concordia (10-19) scoreless over the last three innings.

Chad Ljunggren scored on a balk and Alex Larsen grove in Jose Godinez on a groundout for a 2-0 lead. St. Norbert scored five times in the third inning, getting a pair of two-run doubles by Nick Pierre and Larsen. Cameron Jerina also drove in a run on a fielder's choice for a 7-0 advantage.

Concordia rallied with three runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to tie the game at 7-7.

St. Norbert responded with four runs on five hits in the top of the sixth. Ljunggren had an RBI single, and Troy Rottier scored on a passed ball. Pierre had an RBI groundout and Larsen an infield single to drive in the fourth run.

Concordia scored twice in its half of the sixth to cut the deficit to 11-9, but St. Norbert scored four runs on one hit and three Falcons errors in the seventh. Travis Mason had a two-run triple in the inning for the decisive blow.

St. Norbert stole eight bases in the game in nine attempts. Jerina pilfered three bases, while Larsen added two to improve his season number to 18-for-18.

Larsen was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while Mason was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Rottier was 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Jerina was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, and Ljunggrenw as 2-for-6 with two runs scored.

Nate Schadrie, one of six St. Norbert pitchers, was credited with the win working 1 1/3 innings of relief.
