Green Knights Top Monmouth in MWC Opener

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College used another late goal to earn a hard-fought result en route to a 2-1 win over Monmouth College in the Green Knights' Midwest Conference opener at Peacock Memorial Park.

Nathan Angell scored in the game's 77th minute off a corner kick to snap a 1-1 tie, with Sam Lamers picking up the assist. It was Angell's first goal of the season.

St. Norbert (2-3-2, 1-0 MWC) opened the scoring on Kirill Vasilenko's third goal of the season, an unassisted marker coming on a free kick at the 9:07 mark.

Monmouth (1-6-1, 0-1) answered in the 70th minute, with Chizobam Nkemeh getting an unassisted goal.

The Fighting Scots held a 7-6 shots on goal advantage, but the Green Knights had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. All five of St. Norbert's corners came in the second half and one set up the game-winning goal.

Scott Faul made four save for St. Norbert, while Matt Schmidt made three stops for Monmouth.
