Green Knights Net Big Road Win Over Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College picked up a crucial road victory to keep its Midwest Conference title hopes alive with a 3-1 over Lake Forest College at Farwell Field.

The Green Knights (7-2-2, 3-1 MWC) scored two first-half goals to get the early jump on the Foresters (7-3, 2-1). St. Norbert scored first in the second half for a three-goal edge before allowing Lake Forest a late consolation goal.

Katie Vanden Avond opened the scoring, netting her 18th goal of the season at the 22-minute mark, with Nicole Beine assisting. Zoe Kurth then followed with her third goal of the season, all coming in the last two games, with Elly Wiebusch setting her up at 34:30 for a 2-0 halftime lead.

Vanden Avond then scored her 19th goal of the season with an unassisted marker just 49 seconds in to the second half. The three-goal lead would hold up until Lake Forest's Cara Durgin would score in the 87th minute.

St. Norbert held a commanding 18-5 shots advantage, and also held a big 10-0 edge in corner kicks. Sarah Platzer made two saves for the Green Knights. Rachel Tenuta started in goal for Lake Forest and made five saves in 50:45 of action, while Caroline Kirsch made four stops in relief.
