Vanden Avond Named CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-District

DE PERE - St. Norbert College junior forward Katie Vanden Avond has been named to the first team of the Capital One NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Academic All-District VI squad, presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Vanden Avond, a De Pere native, owns a 3.42 grade point average with a double major in business administration and communications. Entering Thursday's game at Ripon, Vanden Avond currently leads Division III in total goals (32), total points (71), goals per game (1.88) and points per game (4.18) this season. She also is the current NCAA all-divisions leader in career goals among active players with 86.

The Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2011 and 2012, Vanden Avond is the Midwest Conference career leader in goals (86) and points (189) through Oct. 30. As a freshman in 2011, Vanden Avond led Division III in total goals (28) and points (64). As a sophomore in 2012, Vanden Avond was third nationally in total goals (26) and 11th in total points (54).

Vanden Avond is also involved in on-campus service groups, including TRIPS, which involves social justice, and ENACTUS, which is a business service group.

To be eligible for national or regional selection, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.0, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution and be nominated by their sports information director. The CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America team, scheduled to be announced November 22,, is selected after All-District teams are picked from eight geographic regions nationally. All first-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot. District VI includes Division III colleges in Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota.
