Green Knights Pull Away in Win Over Beloit

DE PERE - St. Norbert College got out to a big early lead and cruised to a 68-48 win over Beloit College in a Midwest Conference game at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (10-1, 6-0 MWC), ranked No. 13 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, won for the eighth straight game. Beloit fell to 4-7, 2-4.

St. Norbert held an 8-7 lead early on before going on a 20-5 run to take control at 28-12 with 9:25 left in the half. The Green Knights scored on six straight possessions to take a 21-9 lead at the 12:33 mark, and Kam Cerroni's 3-pointer and Andrew Schwoerer's basket closed out the run. The Green Knights scored just six points in the last 9 minutes of the half to settle for a 34-21 lead at halftime.

Beloit cut the deficit to 34-25 in the first two minutes of the second half, but St. Norbert answered with an 8-0 run. Cerroni converted a pair of free throws, Brandon Gries connected on a 3-pointer and Andy Fox had a conventional three-point play for a 42-25 lead with 15:33 left. Beloit would get no closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

St. Norbert shot 50 percent from the floor, making 25 of 50 shots. Cerroni finished with 15 points, while Schwoerer came off the bench to add14 points. Austin Elliott had 13 points, while Gries totaled 12 points. The Green Knights held a 32-25 rebounding advantage.

Beloit shot 39.1 percent (18-for-46) from the floor and was 5-for-22 (22.7 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. The Buccaneers, who had 18 turnovers, were led by James Lazarcik's 14 points and eight rebounds.
