Green Knights Surge Past Carroll Into Title Game

DE PERE - St. Norbert College held Carroll University to 10 points in the final 10 minutes of the game to post a 69-54 win in a semifinal game of the Midwest Conference Tournament on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (20-4) earned a 20-win season for the tenth time in program history. St. Norbert will face Monmouth College in the championship game of the tournament at 6 p.m. Saturday. Carroll saw its season end 15-9.

St. Norbert and Carroll were tied 44-44 with 9:57 left before going on a 10-1 run to take control. Tasha Giese's basket got the run started, and she added another basket a possession later for a 48-44 lead. Carroll's Malory Christenson split a pair of free throws, but Giese scored on a layup for a 50-45 lead. St. Norbert got another stop, and Giese scored again for a 52-45 edge with 7:05 to go. Stephanie Weigman's basket with 5:51 to go put the Green Knights ahead 54-45 and effectively sealed the outcome. Carroll would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

The Green Knights opened the game with the lead and eventually led 28-18 with 2:14 in the half, but the Pioneers closed the half on an 8-2 run to trail 30-26 at the break.

Heidi Van Sistine led St. Norbert with 18 points and eight rebounds. Morgan Heim totaled 17 points and seven rebounds. Giese added 12 points. The Green Knights shot 53.2 percent from the floor, making 25 of 47 field goals. St. Norbert shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the second half, making 12 of 18 field-goal attempts.

Carroll got 14 points apiece from Emily DeNoyer and Christenson. Breann Maryanski had eight points and 18 rebounds. The Pioneers shot 30.9 percent (17-for-55) from the floor.
