Green Knights Win Conference Opener

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College won its Midwest Conference North Division opener with an 8-1 win over Ripon College at Western Racquet and Fitness Club. The Green Knights also faced Grinnell College in a non-conference match, falling 9-0.

The Green Knights got off to a good start against the Red Hawks by sweeping all three doubles points. Nate Gosz and Casey Brice topped Eric Seiler and Ryan Long 9-8 (7-5) at No. 1. Leon Gilman and Travis Buechel defeated Brian Schumacher and Ryan Slowinski 8-2 at No. 2 flight, while Tim Hartwick and Ryan Schmit bested Anders Goodwin and Tyler Hopewell 8-1 at No. 3.

In singles action, Buechel defeated Long in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 10-2 at No. 2. Josh Sweere upended Schumacher 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, while Nate Gosz blanked Ryan Slowinski 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.

Gilman claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Lincoln Wurtz at No. 5, while Brice defeated Goodwin 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6.
