St. Norbert Splits in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - St. Norbert College split a pair of games on its second day of action in Florida, beating the University of Scranton 5-3 before falling to Rutgers University-Camden 6-1.

St. Norbert (2-5) gradually built a 5-0 lead against Scranton. Codi Jenshak and Abby Gildernick had RBI singles in the first inning, followed by a Samantha Gross RBI double in the second inning. The Green Knights picked up an unearned run in the fifth inning and Emily Laufer had an RBI single in the sixth inning.

Morgan Rusch retired the first 15 hitters she faced and picked up the win, allowing just four hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Tayler Long led St. Norbert by going 4-for-4 at the plate. JoAnna Ruppa was 3-for-5 for St. Norbert, which pounded out 16 hits but left 14 runners on base. Gildernick, Laufer and MacKenzie Hazen all had two hits apiece.

St. Norbert couldn't solve Rutgers-Camden pitcher Brittany Scott in the nightcap. Scott scattered seven hits and struck out eight against one walk.

The Green Knights picked up their only run of the game in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Gildernick. Laufer had St. Norbert's only multi-hit game, going 2-for-3.

Brianna Byrne took the loss, allowing seven hits, four walks and five earned runs with two strikeouts in five inning pitched.
