Martinez's 10K Title Paces St. Norbert to Third Place Start

GRINNELL, Iowa - St. Norbert College, behind a win in the 10,000-meter run by Elvia Martinez, sits in third place at the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship after the first day of competition.

The Green Knights currently have 39 points through six of 20 events, one point behind second-place Grinnell College's 40. Monmouth College leads the field with 68 points.

Martinez handily claimed the 10K title with a time of 38:28.51, 18 seconds faster than the runner-up. Charlotte Walsh finished fifth with a time of 39:08.90, while Alyssa Price was eighth in 39:26.17.

Megan Crandell was third in the javelin throw with a heave of 34.06 meters. Markiesa Westphal was eighth with a throw of 30.00 meters.

Jenne Wiedemeier was fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.91 meters. Grace Mickelson was fifth, also clearing the bar at 2.91 meters.

Brittany Kozlowski was fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:51.97.

Erin Lang placed sixth in the long jump at 4.98 meters.
