Scherer Shines Under the Golden Dome, Places Third at Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Jenny Scherer continued her outstanding start to her junior cross country season with an individual third-place finish at the National Catholic Championships held at the University of Notre Dame.

Scherer, who won the St. Norbert Tom Barry and UW-Whitewater invites this season, placed third behind to Notre Dame harriers. Scherer ran the 5-kilometer race in a time of 18 minutes 7 seconds. The Fighting Irish's Lindsey Ferguson won the event with a time of 17:31, while teammate Marissa Treece was the runner-up in 17:53.

The Green Knights ran well enough to place 12th out of 35 teams. The Green Knights compiled 441 points, topping Division I schools such as the University of Detroit, St. Bonaventure University and Holy Cross College. Notre Dame placed five runners in the top seven to claim the championship with a scant 21 points.

Ashley Graybill scored in 38th place with a time of 19:14, followed by Kelsey Timm scoring 116th in 20:39. Kim Keil scored 122nd in 20:47, while Megan Domnick rounded out the scoring in 162nd at 21:21.

Placing in the top seven for the Green Knights were Isabella Benassi (200th, 23:06) and Melissa Menne (206th, 23:13).
