Green Knights Drop MWC North Opener at Carroll

WAUKESHA - St. Norbert College lost its first game in Midwest Conference North Division play with a 30-6 setback to Carroll University at Schneider Stadium.

The Green Knights (2-3, 0-1 MWC North) had a 17-game winning streak against Carroll (5-0, 1-0) snapped. It was St. Norbert's first loss to the Pioneers since a 33-19 defeat at Minahan Stadium on Nov. 4, 1995.

Carroll took a 10-0 lead after the first quarter on a 20-yard field goal by Tyler Raymaker and a 37-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Burlinggame to Kevin Jennings. The Pioneers boosted their lead to 17-0 when Burlingame found Jennings on a 78-yard touchdown pass with 5 minutes 50 seconds left in the second quarter.

St. Norbert got back into the game when scored on its first second-half possession. The Green Knights recovered a Carroll fumble and went 61 yards in four plays, capped by a 26-yard touchdown pass from Jack Becker to Brett Olson with 9:20 left in the third quarter. The point-after try failed to keep the score at 17-6.

The Green Knights lost a fumble at their own 25-yard line late in the third quarter, and Carroll converted six plays later on a 1-yard touchdown run by Burlingame with 45 seconds left. The Pioneers then turned an interception into another score early in the fourth quarter, with Burlingame scrambling for an 8-yard touchdown run with 10:05 to play.

Carroll outgained St. Norbert 443-197 in total offense. The Pioneers ran 75 plays to the Green Knights' 45, and possessed the football for 39:09. Zach Broberg led St. Norbert in rushing with 59 yards on nine attempts. Olson caught three Passes for 34 yards and one touchdown.

Burlingame completed 20 of 29 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed 16 times for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Jennings caught nine passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

Matt Petersilka and Ryan Grandlic had 14 tackles apiece for St. Norbert.
