St. Norbert Wins Midwest Conference Title

RIPON - St. Norbert College wrapped up its fourth Midwest Conference women's tennis championship with a pair of dual-meet wins on the final day of the fall regular season. The Green Knights defeated Knox College 9-0 at home at Western Racquet and Fitness, and then traveled to Ripon College and beat the Red Hawks 9-0 to clinch the crown at Larson Courts.

The Green Knights (13-1, 10-0 MWC) won the conference title in women's tennis for the fourth time (1996, 1997, 2009). St. Norbert's championship snapped a streak of four-straight titles for Grinnell College, which had won nine of the last 10 crowns. The automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament will be determined at the MWC Tournament next April.

St. Norbert yielded just six points in the win over Knox. Katherine Ake posted a 6-0, 6-0 singles win over Miranda Corbett at No. 2. Erika Chitko blanked Celina Dietzel 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, while Nancy Chybowski shut out Maggie St. Clair 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Anna Gosz also won 6-0, 6-0 over Lauren Sparks at No. 5.

The Green Knights did not allow a point in doubles play. Chybowski and Elizabeth Manlick beat Corbett and Taytem Chapman 8-0 at No. 1, followed by Ake and Chitko winning 8-0 over Dietzel and St. Clair at No. 2. Gosz and Ashley Randazzo defeated Sparks and Kaly Davidson 8-0 at No. 3.

Against Ripon, St. Norbert allowed just nine points. Chybowski shutout Lucero Pena 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, while Gosz topped Lily Lenk 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Katlyn Gahan defeated Tenzin Tsephel 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

Ake and Chitko defeated Pena and Courtney Olson 8-0 and No. 2 doubles, while Randazzo and Emily Rasmussen beat Lenk and Tsephel 8-1 at No. 3.
