St. Norbert Moves to 8-0 for Best Start Since 1922-23

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - St. Norbert College improved to 8-0 for the first time in 92 years with an 87-58 win over Illinois College in a Midwest Conference game at Bruner Center.

The Green Knights (8-0, 5-0 MWC), ranked No. 18 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, were last 8-0 when the 1922-23 team finished their season with that record. The win was St. Norbert's 28th consecutive regular-season triumph.

Illinois College (1-7, 0-5) jumped out to a 6-0 lead as the Green Knights missed their first four field-goal attempts. St. Norbert, which trailed 9-2, made 20 of its last 25 shots from the floor to close out the first half in building a 50-31 lead. The Blueboys' Max Stutsman hit a 3-pointer to bring the host to within 24-23 with 8:10 left in the half, but St. Norbert went on a 12-2 run to take a 36-25 lead. Andrew Schwoerer had seven of the points during the run.

The Blueboys got to within 18 points at 56-38 with 15:56 to go, but St. Norbert went on an 11-2 run over the next 5:05 to take a 67-40 lead with 10:59 to go on a Schwoerer basket.

St. Norbert shot a lusty 57.8 percent (37-for-64) from the floor, including 69 percent (20-for-29) in the first half. Schwoerer, who moved into 16th place on the St. Norbert career scoring list with 1,153 points, led St. Norbert with 22 points and nine rebounds. Mitch Winter added 16 points, while Austin Elliott chipped in with 10 points. The Green Knights held a commanding 45-20 rebounding advantage.

Stutsman led Illinois College with 15 points. The Blueboys shot 39.3 percent (22-for-56) from the floor.
