St. Norbert Blasts Lawrence

APPLETON - St. Norbert College went on a 26-1 run in the first half to take command and went on to rout Lawrence University 88-34 in a Midwest Conference game at Alexander Gym.

The Green Knights (10-2, 7-0 MWC) held a 12-7 lead with 13:20 left in the first half before going on their big surge. A Jill Kleiman 3-pointer put St. Norbert ahead by double digits at 19-7 at the 10:49 mark. The Vikings got a free throw at 8:22 to put the score at 21-8, but the Green Knights countered with 17 consecutive points to take a 38-8 lead.

Kleiman, Brianna Byrne, Regan Carmichael, Tasha Giese, Byrne and Giese scored baskets during a seven-possession stretch to start the run. St. Norbert led 40-10 at halftime.

St. Norbert eventually took a 40-point lead at 57-17 with 13:55 to play. The Green Knights led by as many as 56 points in the second half.

The Green Knights shot 56.9 percent from the floor (33-for-58) and had assists on 27 of their 33 baskets. Carmichael led the way with 16 points, while Giese and Heidi Van Sistine had 14 points apiece. Rachel Hagge scored a career-high 11 points while Stephanie Weigman added 10 points.

Lawrence shot 27.7 percent from the floor, making 13 of 47 field-goal attempts. Kassidy Rinehart, Elizabeth Arco and Patsy Kealey all had six points apiece.
