St. Norbert Pulls Away From Concordia In Third Period

MOORHEAD, Minn. - St. Norbert College rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to pull out a hard-fought 6-3 win over Concordia-Moorhead College in a non-conference game at Moorhead Sports Arena.

The Green Knights (11-1-2) scored late in the second period to even the score and then scored three goals in the third period to pull away from the Cobbers (6-5-3), who won the Primelink Great Northern Shootout over Thanksgiving at Middlebury.

Concordia took a 2-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Adam Wiertzema at 12:15 and a shorthanded marker by Andrew Deters at 16:16. St. Norbert countered with a goal by Noah Nelson with 8 seconds remaining in the first period to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Tyler Zepeda brought St. Norbert back to a 2-2 with a goal at 8:22, but the Cobbers regained the lead at 12:26 on a goal by Jared Maetche. St. Norbert took a 3-3 tie into second intermission after Cullen Bradshaw's goal at 15:58.

St. Norbert took the lead for good on Ross Pavek's power-play goal at 4:04 of the third period. Tanner Froese added another power-play marker at 8:07. Zepeda closed out the scoring with an even-strength goal at 10:17.

Bradshaw had two assists for a three-point game, while Mason Baptista and Sam Higgins both had two assists apiece.

David Jacobson made 28 saves for St. Norbert, who moved into a tie for third place in career wins by a Division III goaltender with 72. Alex Reichle made 20 stops for the Cobbers, which outshot the Green Knights 31-26.

St. Norbert was 2-for-3 on the power play, including 2-for-2 in the pivotal third period. Concordia was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
