Scoring Record Tumbles In St. Norbert Win Over Knox

DE PERE - St. Norbert College set a school record for points in a game in its 112-68 win over Knox College in a Midwest Conference game on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.

St. Norbert's point total surpassed the previous standard of 108 points, set in a 108-49 win over Lake Forest on Feb. 4, 1984.

The Green Knights (12-2, 9-0 MWC) took the mystery out of the outcome early, jumping out to a 12-0 lead in the first 4 minutes. Tasha Giese scored five of the Green Knights first 10 points during the run. The Prairie Fire cut the deficit down to 20-7, but the Green Knights countered with an 18-0 skein to build a 38-7 advantage with 9:28 left before halftime. Stephanie Weigman had six points during that run, while Heidi Van Sistine had four points.

St. Norbert, which led 62-26 at halftime, ended the game scoring 35 points off Knox turnovers. The Prairie Fire (5-8, 3-5) would get no closer than 33 points in the second half.

Six Green Knights ended up scoring in double figures. Giese finished with 20 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, five blocked shots and four steals in 26 minutes. Weigman added a career-high 20 points. Van Sistine scored 16 poitns with nine rebounds, while Kyra VandenHeuvel added career-high 13 points. Brianna Byrne and Regan Carmichael added 12 points apiece.

St. Norbert shot 60 percent for the game, connecting on 45 of 75 field-goal attempts. The Green Knights were also 22-for-27 at the free-throw line (81.5 percent) and held a 57-42 rebounding margin.

Knox shot 27.2 percent (22-for-81) from the floor. Jessica Howard had 12 points and Jamie Blue 11 for the Prairie Fire.
