MWC Winning Streak Reaches 33

DE PERE - St. Norbert College won for the 33rd consecutive time against Midwest Conference opponents with an 87-45 rout of Knox College at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (13-1, 9-0 MWC), ranked No. 19 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, remain one game in front of Monmouth College at the midway point of the MWC schedule.

St. Norbert took command early, taking a 14-0 lead out of the gate. Andrew Schwoerer scored six of the Green Knights' points during the run. Schwoerer moved into 12th place on St. Norbert's career scoring list during the game, now possessing 1,247 career points.

The Prairie Fire (4-10, 2-7) cut its deficit down to 11 at 20-9 at the 10:52 mark, but the lead ruptured into a 35-11 St. Norbert advantage 5 1/2 minutes later. Six different Green Knights scored during the 15-2 run. St. Norbert matched its largest lead of the first half at 27 points, leading 45-18 at the break.

St. Norbert scored the first six points of the second half on baskets by Steven Hofacker, D.J. DeValk and Schwoerer to take a 51-18 lead with 16:56 to go. Knox would get no closer than 29 points the rest of the way.

Schwoerer was the only St. Norbert player to reach double figures with 16 points. DeValk, Terrence Garner and Ben Bobinski all had nine points apiece for the Green Knights, who had a commanding 52-22 rebounding advantage. St. Norbert shot 48.3 percent (28-for-58) and 77.8 percent (28-for-36) at the free-throw line.

Knox shot 28.1 percent from the floor, making 16 of 57 field-goal attempts. Robert Suntken and Caylab Herrera both had 14 points for the Prairie Fire.
