Green Knights Best Sabres in Series Opener

DE PERE - St. Norbert College won for the fifth time in its last six games with a 4-1 win over Marian University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series opener at Resch Olympic Pavilion.

The Green Knights (11-6-1, 6-4-1) scored a goal in every period to put away the Sabres (5-11-1, 3-7).

Lauren Roethlisberger scored her sixth goal of the season with a power-play goal coming on a shot from the blue line directly in front of the net at the 8:49 mark of the first period, the only goal of the frame.

St. Norbert took a 2-0 lead when Kylie Gazzolo scored at the 1:16 mark of the period, the Green Knights' lone 5-on-5 goal of the game. The Green Knights jumped ahead 3-0 when Ali Parker scored on a deflection on a 4-on-4 chance at the 7:56 mark.

Marian cut into its deficit at 7:06 of the third period when Brittany Syms tallied the Sabres' only goal of the game. St. Norbert countered with a shorthanded goal from Parker at 15:21. Marian had an extra attacker on for the final 2:30 of the game but couldn't get any closer.

Parker added an assist for a three-point game, while Megan Crandell had two assists.

St. Norbert outshot Marian 43-15. Brianna Kelly made 14 saves for the Green Knights, while Amanda Alexander had 39 stops for the Sabres.

St. Norbert was 1-for-7 on the power play, and Marian was 0-for-4.
