Green Knights Drop Series Opener at Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. - St. Norbert College fell behind 3-0 after one period and couldn't recover from the early deficit, coming up on the short end of a 4-2 decision to Adrian College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series opener at Arrington Ice Arena.

The Green Knights (14-3-2, 10-2-1 NCHA) fell two points behind the Bulldogs (14-3-3, 11-1-1) heading into the second game of the series on Saturday. There are five regular-season games remaining for both teams.

Adrian, hosting St. Norbert for the first time, wasted no time in jumping ahead. Kyle Brothers put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0 just 2:39 into the game. Daniel Lisi scored at 9:19, and Kyle Brothers scored at 18:19 to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 edge.

St. Norbert had four power-play chances in the first 11:50 of the second period, including 1:31 of 5-on-3 time, but couldn't get on the scoreboard. Adrian then took a 4-0 lead on a power-play goal by Jeremy Olinyk at 13:19. The Green Knights got to within 4-1 when Ross Pavek scored at 17:49 of the second period.

Pijus Rulevicius scored at 7:10 of the third period to get St. Norbert back into the game at 4-2. The Green Knights then had a major power play start at the 9:42 mark, but couldn't score despite eight shots on goal.

St. Norbert outshot Adrian 37-26 for the game, which included a whopping 23-3 edge in the third period. David Jacobson made 22 saves for the Green Knights, while Scott Shackell made 35 stops for the Bulldogs.

St. Norbert was 0-for-6 on the power play, while Adrian was 1-for-4.
