Big Third Period Lifts Green Knights

DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored four third-period goals en route to a 5-1 win over Marian University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Resch Olympic Pavilion.

The Green Knights (13-6-2, 8-4-2 NCHA) improved to 6-0-1 in their last seven games with the victory, and are two points out of second place with four games remaining.

St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead when Emily Chandler scored a power-play goal at the 15:55 mark of the first period. It was Chandler's fourth goal of the season.

That goal would hold up until St. Norbert would extend the lead with a Lauren Roethlisberger power-play goal at 8:41 of the third period. Katie Conlon would add a goal at 11:18 for a 3-0 lead. The Sabres' Kaitlyn Johnson would add a power-play goal at 18:30 to cut the deficit to 3-1.

St. Norbert iced the game with an empty-net goal by Kylie Gazzolo with 51 seconds left. Emily Bondrager scored 11 seconds later to close out the scoring.

Chandler added two assists for a three-point game, while Roethlisberger had an assist for a two-point game.

St. Norbert outshot Marian 48-24. Leigh Grall made 23 saves for the Green Knights, while Amanda Alexander made 43 stops for the Sabres. St. Norbert was 2-for-6 on the power play, while Marian was 1-for-5.
