Green Knights Open Season In Minnesota

WINONA, Minn. - St. Norbert College opened the 2015 men's tennis season with a pair of non-conference dual matches at Winona Tennis Club. The Green Knights dropped a 9-0 decision to Luther College and an 8-1 setback to St. Mary's University.

Against Luther, the Green Knights lost three close doubles matches. Travis Buechel and Nate Gosz dropped an 8-6 decision to Sam Cychosz and Isaiah Mayerchak at No. 1. Leon Gilman and Casey Brice lost at No. 2 by an 8-4 count to Kyle Appel and Trent Schneider, and Ben Vande Zande and Zach Simonet fell 8-4 to Quinn Foley and Anders Jensen at No. 3.

Gilman had a three-set loss at No. 3 singles to Mayerchak 6-4, 4-6, 10-3.

Robert Quinlan picked up St. Norbert's lone win on the day with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over St. Mary's Andrew Johnson at No. 5 singles.
