Defense Shines as St. Norbert Routs Lake Forest

DE PERE - St. Norbert College limited visiting Lake Forest College to 10 made field goals as the Green Knights rolled to a 66-28 Midwest Conference win on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (18-3, 15-1 MWC) wrapped up the outright MWC championship, its 13th MWC championship and 17th women's basketball conference title overall.

St. Norbert's defense, which is now allowing opponents to score an average of 49.7 points per game this season, held Lake Forest to 10-for-37 shooting (27.0 percent) from the floor. The Foresters were also forced into committing 26 turnovers.

The Green Knights wasted little time taking command, building a 16-4 lead just over 7 minutes into the game. Brianna Byrne scored seven points during the run. The Foresters got to within nine at 23-14, but the Green Knights led 28-15 at halftime.

St. Norbert opened the second half with an impressive 17-0 run, putting the Green Knights ahead 45-15 with 15:16 remaining. Jill Kleiman, Rachel Hagge and Byrne canned 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions to fuel the run.

The Green Knights shot 44.6 percent (25-for-56) from the floor and committed just 12 turnovers. Byrne went over the 20-point mark for the second consecutive game, finishing with 21 points. Kleiman added nine points, while Heidi Van Sistine added eight points and 11 rebounds.

Lake Forest (11-10, 10-6) was led by Tara Gloystein's six points.
