GALESBURG, Ill. - St. Norbert College matched a long-standing Midwest Conference record with its 41st consecutive win over a league opponent with a 73-40 win over Knox College at Memorial Gym.

The Green Knights (21-1, 17-0 MWC), ranked No. 7 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, matched Beloit College's league record of 41. The Buccaneers picked up the first 40 of those wins from 1947-51, and then after an eight-year hiatus from the MWC picked up the final win in that streak in 1959. St. Norbert will attempt to surpass that mark at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at Schuldes Sports Center in De Pere.

Knox (6-15, 4-12) made St. Norbert work for the win, trailing by only six at 31-25 at halftime. The Prairie Fire led 25-24 with 2:45 left before intermission on an Orlando Brown conventional three-point play. The Green Knights closed out the half with a 7-0 run, with Terrence Garner netting six of the points.

Knox scored the first basket of the second half, but St. Norbert went on an 18-2 run to break the game open. Austin Elliott had a conventional three-point play to get the run started. Andrew Schwoerer had seven points during the stretch, including a conventional three-point play of his own.

St. Norbert led 49-29 with 12:16 remaining and never led by less than 17 points the rest of the way.

Schwoerer led St. Norbert with 16 points, while Elliott added 15 points. The Green Knights shot 54.5 percent (30-for-55) from the floor, held a 43-27 rebounding advantage, and had 27 assists on their 30 made field goals.

Knox shot 27.5 percent (14-for-51) from the floor, including just a 5-for-22 (22.7 percent) effort in the second half. Brown led Knox with seven points.
