St. Norbert Stays In Second Place With Win

HANCOCK, Mich. - St. Norbert College remained in second place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association with a 6-1 win over Finlandia University at Houghton County Ice Arena.

The Green Knights (15-6-3, 10-4-3 NCHA), ranked No. 10 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, remained one point ahead of Lake Forest College with one game remaining. St. Norbert can clinch a first-round by in the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs with a win over College of St. Scholastica at 3 p.m. Saturday in Duluth, Minn.

St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead when Reaghan Chadwick scored her eighth goal of the season at 18:40 of the first period. The Lions countered 37 seconds later with an unassisted goal by Jena Kosley.

The Green Knights scored four second-period goals to break the game open. Natasha Smith scored at 9:34 of the second period, and Lexi Pyykkonen scored eight seconds later for a 3-0 lead. The two goals eight seconds apart set a new St. Norbert record for fastest two goals, with the old mark being 10 seconds on goals by Laurel Hill and Henriette Ostergaard on Nov. 18, 2012 against Marian.

Emily Bondrager scored at 14:38 of the second period, while Emily Chandler followed at 19:30 for a 5-1 lead. Ali Parker scored her 13th goal of the season at 10:33 of the third period for the final goal.

Katie Conlon had three assists, while Smith had two assists for a three-point game. Bondrager added an assist for the Green Knights' only other multi-point game.

St. Norbert outshot Finlandia 31-17. Brianna Kelly made 16 saves for the Green Knights, while Taylor Gustafson made 25 saves for the Lions. Finlandia was 0-for-5 on the power play, while St. Norbert was 0-for-2.
