St. Norbert Holds 32-Point Lead After First Day at MWC Indoor

GRINNELL, Iowa - St. Norbert College built a 32-point lead in the team scoring after the first day of action at the Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship at Grinnell College.

The Green Knights posted 79 points through seven events completed on the first day. Cornell College is second with 47 points, while Monmouth College is third with 37 points. St. Norbert is looking for its first MWC Indoor championship since 1991. Monmouth is the 13-time defending champion.

St. Norbert took three of the top seven positions in the 1-mile run. Brittany Kozlowski won the conference title in 5:03.82. Lisa Baeten was fourth with a time of 5:11.18, while Charlotte Walsh was seventh in 5:24.56.

The Green Knights won both relay events. Liz LeCaptain, Angel Hon, Erin Lang and Mara Aparnieks won the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:47.75. LeCaptain, Lang, Clarissa Jauregui and Haley Joosten claimed the title in the 1,600-meter sprint medley with a time of 4:19.36.

Erin Artz was second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:09.43, while Taylor Miller was fourth in 18:23.90.

Samantha Morateck placed second in the high jump at 5 feet 4 1/2 inches, while Nicole Vanderlin was third at 5-2 1/4. Ashely Berton was sixth at 5-0 1/4.

Brianna Bittner placed fourth in the long jump at 15-10 1/4, while Teagan Wernicke was seventh in 15-2.

Katelyn Turner placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 38-11 3/4, while Hannah Kruse was eighth at 36 feet.
