Green Knights Swept on First Day at Central Tournament

PELLA, Iowa - St. Norbert College lost its first two games on the first day of the Central College Tournament. The Green Knights lost 6-5 to College of St. Benedict and then lost 10-1 to Central.

The Green Knights (4-8) held a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning against St. Benedict but were done in by a four-run sixth inning, keyed by a decisive three-run home run by Megan Toninato.

St. Norbert scored one run in the first inning on an run-scoring double by Codi Jenshak. The Green Knights then snapped a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth inning, scoring on RBI singles from Samantha Gross and Jenshak. St. Norbert added a run on an Emily Laufer RBI double in the sixth and Gross stroked a solo home run in the seventh.

Jenshak, Gross and Tayler Long all had two hits apiece. Gross and Jenshak both had two RBIs, while Long scored two runs.

Morgan Rusch took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing 11 hits with six runs.

Against Central, the 19th-ranked Dutch broke the game open with five runs in the third and fourth innings. St. Norbert got its lone run in the first inning on an RBI double by Leigh Grall, who was 2-for-3.

Francesca Marrese took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing three hits with five runs in 2 2/3 innings.
