Nohr's Shutout Lifts St. Norbert to Split With Ripon

DE PERE - St. Norbert College opened its new Larry Van Alstine Field at the Mel Nicks Sports Complex in style with a 5-0 win over Ripon College in the first game of a Midwest Conference doubleheader. The Red Hawks salvaged a split with a 6-2 win in the nightcap.

Brett Nohr twirled a four-hit shutout in the opener to pace the Green Knights' effort. Nohr walked two and struck out four, and did not allow a hitter to reach third base until the ninth inning.

The Green Knights (8-10, 1-3 MWC North) scored three runs in the third inning to take control. Derek Klegin got things started with an RBI double to score Ray McDonald. Troy Rottier followed with an RBI single to score Klegin. Tyler Banovich then singled home Brandon Kozinski.

St. Norbert picked up to insurance runs in the seventh inning on a two-run single by Banovich to score Klegin and Kozinski.

Kozinski, Rottier and Banovich all had two hits apiece, with Banovich totaling three RBIs.

St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead in the nightcap, getting an RBI groundout from Rottier in the first inning. The Red Hawks answered with three runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Banovich singled in Klegin in the fifth inning for the game's final run.

Tyler Brown was 3-for-4 in the nightcap for St. Norbert, which had eight hits. Nate Schadrie took the loss, allowing nine hits and six runs in five innings. Matt Zacharias threw four innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits.
