St. Norbert Splits at Carroll

WAUKESHA - St. Norbert College salvaged a split at Carroll University stay in contention for a Midwest Conference Tournament berth in a league doubleheader at Kilgour Field. Carroll won the opener 2-0 before the Green Knights answered with a 5-1 win in the nightcap.

St. Norbert (11-17, 6-4 MWC North) scored three runs on one hit and two Carroll errors in the third inning of Game 2. MacKenzie Hazen ripped a three-run double with one out to score Tayler Long, Codi Jenshak and Jessica DeMeuse for a 3-0 lead.

The Green Knights added a run in the fifth inning when Michaela Machurick's fielder's choice allowed Hazen to score. The Pioneers (19-13, 7-3) scored a run in the sixth, but St. Norbert got the run back when Hazen scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh.

Hazen was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored to account for all of St. Norbert's runs. Francesca Marrese earned the complete-game win, allowing six hits with two walks and no strikeouts.

St. Norbert was held to two hits by Carroll's Natalie Ruechel in the opener. Jenshak and Samantha Gross had singles to account for the Green Knights' offense.

Carroll scored single runs in the first and second innings. Morgan Rusch took the loss, allowing nine hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
