MADISON - St. Norbert College advanced to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship for the second time in school history after cruising to the championship of the Midwest Conference Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Green Knights (24-7) clinched their first NCAA appearance since 2010 with a 5-2 win over Grinnell College in the championship match, and also matched a school record for wins in the process. St. Norbert topped Lake Forest College 5-1 in a semifinal match earlier in the day.

The NCAA Tournament bracket will be announced on Monday, May 4.

St. Norbert looked to be in a bit of trouble after Grinnell won two of the three doubles matches to open the title bout. Katherine Ake and Erika Chitko picked up the Green Knights' lone tandem win with an 8-3 triumph over Hannah Cook and Virgina Purcell at the No. 2 flight.

The Green Knights roared back to sweep all four singles matches that finished against Grinnell, which had won nine of the last 11 MWC championships. Ake powered to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hannah Cook at No. 2, while Nancy Chybowski trimmed Virginia Purcell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. Chitko defeated Anushka Joshi 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4, while Ashley Randazzo's 6-1, 6-4 win over Minna Montgomery at No. 6 closed out the match.

Against Lake Forest, Ake and Chitko defeated Lexi Chionis and Zoe Mauer 8-0 at No. 2 doubles, while Anna Gosz and Randazzo beat Leslie Walton and Elinor Chalmers 8-3 at No. 3.

Chybowski topped Chionis 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Chitko beat Walton 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4. Gosz blanked Maurer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
