Gosz, Quinlan Lead St. Norbert at MWC Singles Championship

MADISON - St. Norbert College's Nate Gosz and Robert Quinlan reached the semifinals of their respective singles flights to lead the Green Knights at the Midwest Conference Singles Championship at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Gosz opened with a quarterfinal-round win in No. 2 flight over Knox College's Karl Ruzgas 6-3, 6-1. He then fell to eventual conference runner-up Cole Miller of Grinnell College by a 6-2, 7-5 score in the semifinals.

Quinlan lost in the semifinals of the No. 4 flight to eventual champion Aaron Lapkin of Grinnell 6-2, 6-4. Quinlan defeated Carroll University's Eric Schneider 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.

Travis Buechel was eliminated in the semifinals of the consolation bracket of No. 1 singles, falling to Knox's Walter Palmer 8-4.

Leon Gilman fell in the quarterfinals of the No. 3 flight with a 6-1, 6-2 setback to Lake Forest College's Ellis Lora-Arceo. Gilman opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Illinois College's T.J. Lawal in the first round.

Casey Brice was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the No. 5 flight with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Grinnell's Tracy Johnson. Brice defeated Knox's Ganesh Uppalapu in the first round.

Kahlo Vue was eliminated in the consolation semifinals of No. 6 flight with an 8-5 loss to Lawrence University's Izaya Turenne.

The MWC Doubles Championship will be held Sunday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
