Green Knights to Face St. Thomas Friday in NCAA Opener

DE PERE - St. Norbert College will face University of St. Thomas in a first-round match in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament Friday at the University of Chicago's Stagg Tennis Courts.
The Green Knights (24-7) are making their second overall NCAA Division III Tournament appearance after winning the Midwest Conference regular-season and tournament championships. St. Norbert, which last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2010, advanced with a 5-2 win over Grinnell College on April 24 in the MWC Tournament championship. The Green Knights are 0-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
St. Thomas (18-2) won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament after upsetting perennial powerhouse Gustavus Adolphus College 5-2 in the championship match, its first win over the Gusties in over 20 years. St. Thomas is making its seventh NCAA Division III Tournament appearance, and is 5-6 all-time with its last NCAA trip coming in 2003.
The St. Norbert-St. Thomas winner advances to face Carnegie Mellon University (15-6) Saturday in the second round. The other three teams in the regional are host Chicago, Augustana College and Edgewood College.
