Green Knights Lead After Day 1 at MWC Outdoor Championship

RIPON - St. Norbert College holds the first-day lead in the team standings at the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Ripon College at Ingalls Field.

The Green Knights, who have never won a MWC indoor or outdoor track and field championship, scored 49 points through six events finalized on the first day of action. Monmouth College, which has won the last 14 MWC outdoor titles, is two points behind St. Norbert with 47 points. Ripon College is third with 38 1/2 points.

Randy Hill won the MWC title in the long jump, leading three Green Knights who finished in the top five int he event. Hill recorded a distance of 21 feet 6 inches, edging out teammate and runner-up Andrew Jacobson's 21-3 1/4. Dan Sisler was fifth with a jump of 20-9 1/4.

Brad Boockmeier turned in a second-place showing in the javelin throw, posting a distance of 176-6. Sisler was fifth with a toss of 157-10. Boockmeier added a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 47-9.

Hayden Hoffmann finished in third place in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:05.72.

Brennan Beachler was seventh in the pole vault, clearing a height of 12-9 1/2. Taylor Daul was eighth with a height of 12-3 1/2.

Sam Holt rounded out St. Norbert's first-day scoring with a seventh-place finish in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:01.30.
