DE PERE - Meredith Roth has been named St. Norbert College women's ice hockey coach, athletics director Tim Bald announced today.

Roth, a Dubuque, Iowa, native, arrives at St. Norbert after serving as an assistant coach at Providence College for the last three seasons, and was also on the Friars' staff from 2006 to 2010. Roth was also a volunteer assistant coach at Cornell University for two years from 2010 to 2012. Roth's head coaching experience came in her first coaching job at Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, Minn., where she coached the Under-16 girls' program for two seasons from 2004 to 2006.

"Coming to us from a similar institution, Meredith is highly compatible with the mission of St. Norbert College and its athletic department," Bald said. "She is personable, experienced and well-suited to take over her own program. We are excited she is joining us at St. Norbert College."

Roth, a 2004 graduate of Providence, was primarily responsible for supervising the defensive zone and penalty kill with the Friars. Providence claimed Hockey East's regular-season championship in 2010, and also had over 30 players named to the league's All-Academic Team during her two tenures on staff.

"I am honored to be named the women's ice hockey coach at St. Norbert College," Roth said. "I want to thank the administration for providing me with a great opportunity. I am excited to be joining the St. Norbert community, one that values learning, growth and development of its students. I am looking forward to carrying these values forward while working with the women's ice hockey program."

During her time at Cornell, Roth helped the Big Red to two 30-win seasons and two NCAA Division I Frozen Four appearances and a pair of Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships. At Shattuck-St. Mary's, she piloted the school's U-16 program to the USA Hockey Tier I national tournament for the first time in school history in 2006.

A decorated four-year player at Providence, Roth was selected by her teammates as the Friars' co-captain her senior year and assistant captain her junior year. Providence captured the Hockey East Tournament championship her junior and senior years and won the league's regular-season title during her sophomore campaign. Roth was selected the team's "Unsung Hero" as a freshman in 2001.

Roth also participated in USA Hockey as a player, and was named to the United States' national team for the International Ice Hockey Federation's World Championship in 2003.

St. Norbert opens its sixth season of intercollegiate women's ice hockey when it hosts Concordia University Wisconsin at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
