St. Norbert Drops MWC Semifinal to Carroll

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College fell behind early and couldn't recover as the Green Knights dropped a 3-1 decision to Carroll University at Lake Forest College's Farwell Field.

Carroll's Rachel Van Sluys scored goals in the 17th and 44th minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Monica Stephans cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal off a rebound from a Katie Vanden Avond shot just 41 seconds into the second half, but the Green Knights couldn't get any closer.

Jensen Meyer's goal with 54 seconds remaining sealed the win for the Pioneers.

St. Norbert (11-6-2) senior forward Katie Vanden Avond saw her career end with 130 goals and 20 assists for 280 points in 78 career games. Vanden Avond's career goals total is the top mark in NCAA Division III history.

Carroll outshot the Green Knights 30-14 and held a 9-6 edge in corner kicks. Maddie Plinska made 12 saves for the Green Knights, while Sabrina Sieger made six saves for the Pioneers.
