St. Norbert Nears MWC Title as Green Knights Top Ripon

RIPON - The St. Norbert College women's volleyball team moved to the doorstep of the Midwest Conference championship with a 3-1 win over Ripon College in a league matchup at the Storzer Center.

The Green Knights topped the Red Hawks 25-15, 25-13, 24-26, 25-8 to improve to 27-3 overall and 8-0 in the MWC. St. Norbert is one-half game ahead of Beloit College in the standings. The Green Knights face the Buccaneers, who are 7-0 in the MWC, at 7 p.m. Friday at Schuldes Sports Center in De Pere.

St. Norbert boasted a .313 hitting percentage in the match, totaling 55 kills against nine errors in 147 attempts. Joanna Mamayek had a 16-kill performance, hitting .414 for the match. Sam Jungbluth and Sarah Sulentic each had 10 kills, while Katie Casebolt totaled nine.

Laura Ayello registered 39 assists, while Kim Angst had 20 digs. St. Norbert had six team blocks, with Jungbluth and Sulentic each getting four blocks apiece.

Ripon hit .030 for the match with 30 kills in 168 attempts with 25 attacking errors.
