DE PERE -- St. Norbert College football coach Dan McCarty has announced six new coaching staff additions for the upcoming 2016 season.

Drew Vanderlin has been hired as the defensive coordinator/linebackers coach, while five others have been hired to intern positions. D.J. Bland (cornerbacks), Ryan Bright (quarterbacks), Mitch Chester (defensive line), Joe Gerber (tight ends) and Nick Pesik (wide receivers) will work extensively with the full-time coaching staff with their position groups.

Vanderlin arrives at St. Norbert after spending four seasons as the defensive line coach and head strength and conditioning coach at UW-Stevens Point. Vanderlin helped develop nine all-conference defensive linemen during his first three seasons with the Pointers, including two All-Americans.

Vanderlin, a Green Bay native, was a decorated player at Michigan Tech University as a four-year starter on the defensive line and finished his career with the second-most sacks in school history. Named a first-team All-GLIAC performer as a junior and senior, he was selected a team captain twice and was also named the Huskies' defensive lineman of the year two times.

Following his collegiate career, he participated in Rookie Orientation Camps with the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers, and was signed to the Packers' practice squad in 2013.

Vanderlin is a 2011 graduate of Michigan Tech with a degree in exercise science.

Bland spent the 2015 season as the defensive backs coach and the junior varsity defensive coordinator at Palm Harbor University High School in Palm Harbor, Fla. Bland was a four-year letterwinner at Eastern Illinois University as a defensive back, helping the Panthers to a pair of NCAA FCS Playoff appearances and Ohio Valley Conference championships. The Chicago native is a 2014 graduate of Eastern Illinois.

Bright comes to St. Norbert after spending the 2015 season as the tight ends and fullbacks coach at UW-La Crosse. Bright played tight end at La Crosse his junior and senior years and graduated in 2015. Bright has worked on the staff of the Jeff Trickey-Randy Wright Quarterback-Receiver Camps. He is a New Glarus native.

Chester spent the 2015 season as a defensive graduate assistant at Carroll University, working primarily with defensive ends. He was a student assistant during the 2014 season at UW-Stevens Point, assisting with the defensive line. Chester, a Green Bay native, was a three-year letterwinner at Stevens Point and was an All-WIAC choice and team captain his senior year.

Gerber spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons as a graduate assistant at UW-Stout, and was a student assistant in 2013 with the Blue Devils. Gerber assisted with the linebackers, tight ends, offensive linemen and fullbacks at Stout. A three-year letterwinner at Stout, he was a team captain in 2012 and was an honorable mention All-WIAC choice in 2011. Gerber is a Minneapolis native.

Pesik spent the 2015 season as the wide receivers coach at UW-Eau Claire. Prior to his stint with the Blugolds, Pesik was on the coaching staff for four years at Northern Illinois University. Pesik spent two seasons as an offensive quality control/assistant wide receivers coach and then was a graduate assistant for two years working with the quarterbacks and wide receivers. Pesik, a Stoughton native, is a 2011 Ripon College graduate.
