St. Norbert Opens MWC Play at Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - St. Norbert College opened its Midwest Conference portion of the schedule at Illinois College and were swept 3-1 and 14-2 by the Lady Blues at Jessica Kamp Field.

The Green Knights (0-10, 0-2 MWC) fell behind right away in the opener, with Illinois College (12-6, 4-2) plating two runs in the first inning and added a single run in the third inning.

St. Norbert scored its only run in the top of the seventh inning when Megan Yeo singled to lead off the inning and moved up to second base on a groundout. Ashley Schuettpelz's two-out single scored Yeo.

The Green Knights had five hits in the opener, including doubles by Gina Mastrodomenico and Amy McBride. Kasey Roff took the loss, allowing four hits and two runs in 1/3 inning pitched.

In the nightcap, the Lady Blues scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to take firm control. The Green Knights scored twice in the top of the third inning, but Illinois College iced its win with five runs in the fourth inning.

In the St. Norbert third inning, Yeo led off with a single and advanced to second on a ground out. Mastrodomenico followed with a run-scoring triple. She then scored on Schuettpelz's infield single.

St. Norbert had five hits in game two, with Emily Laufer going 2-for-2. Francesca Marrese took the loss for the Green Knights, allowing six hits and seven runs (four earned) in 1/3 inning pitched.
