Green Knights Swept at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College closed out its weekend road trip to Illinois suffering a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Monmouth College, losing by scores of 11-1 and 8-5.

The Green Knights drew first blood in the opener with a run in the second inning. Amy McBride coaxed a two-out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Megan Yeo then singled to plate McBride for a 1-0 lead.

The Fighting Scots answered with one run in the second inning to tie the score. Monmouth then added two runs in the fourth inning, three runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth inning.

St. Norbert had seven hits in the opener. Emily Laufer was 2-for-3 with a triple, while Yeo was 2-for-2. Lexi LeCalsey took the loss for the Green Knights, allowing eight hits and six runs (three earned) with one walk and five strikeouts in five innings pitched.

The Green Knights again scored first in the nightcap, with Yeo's first-inning sacrifice fly scoring Ashley Schuettpelz for a 1-0 edge.

Monmouth countered with three runs in the second inning before St. Norbert cut it to 3-2 in the top of the third inning. Brooke Wilson's RBI groubdout scored Schuettpelz. But the Scots would get four runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 7-2 advantage.

Monmouth would add another run in the fourth inning before McBride's double in the fifth inning scored Laufer. The Green Knights would add two more runs in the sixth inning. Gina Mastrodomenico scored on a wild pitch and Wilson's sacrifice fly plated Schuettpelz, but the Green Knights would get no closer.

Schuettpelz was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a double for the Green Knights. Haley Grunwald took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing four hits and three runs in two innings pitched.
