St. Norbert Gets Split at Ripon

RIPON - St. Norbert College earned a doubleheader split with Ripon College in a pair of Midwest Conference games at Tracy Field. The Green Knights won the opener 7-4 before dropping the nightcap 4-2.

Amanda Van Handel got the scoring started in the opener for the Green Knights with a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning. St. Norbert added three runs in the fifth inning with a three-run home run from Tia Danforth.

St. Norbert scored three needed insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. Amy McBride had a two-run single and Kaitlyn Amundson had a sacrifice fly to account for the scoring.

Ripon would score four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, all after two outs, to lead to the final score.

The Green Knights had 11 hits in the game. Danforth finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Van Handel was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while McBride was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Megan Yeo was also 2-for-4 for St. Norbert.

Lexi LeCalsey picked up the complete-game win, scattering nine hits with no earned runs allowed to go along with one walk and five strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Ripon scored two runs in the first inning and added single runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 4-0 lead. St. Norbert would score two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Ashley Schuettpelz had a run-scoring single and McBride scored on a wild pitch. The Green Knights had the potential tying runs on second and third base when the game ended.

St. Norbert had four hits in the game, with Yeo going 2-for-2. Francesca Marrese took the loss, allowing five hits in four innings along with three runs (one earned) and three strikeouts.
