APPLETON - St. Norbert College lost both ends of a Midwest Conference doubleheader to Lawrence University, falling 2-1 in eight innings and 11-2 at Whiting Field.

The Green Knights and Vikings were locked in a classic pitchers' duel in the opener. St. Norbert's Lexi LeCalsey and Lawrence's Maddie MacLean had a scoreless game going into the seventh inning.

Emily Laufer connected on a solo home run to center field in the top of the seventh to give the Green Knights a 1-0 lead. Lawrence's Taylor Dodson then walked with one out in the bottom of the inning, and pinch-runner Marisa Thackston advanced to second on a groundout. Katie Schumacher then tied the game with a single to right field.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Meg Krautsch's two-out single scored Anna Wawiorka, who doubled with one out to start the rally.

Laufer was 2-for-3 to lead the Green Knights, who had five hits. LeCalsey allowed just six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings pitched. MacLean allowed five hits with no walks and one strikeout in the victory.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Ashley Schuettpelz drilled a two-run home run. Lawrence answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, as Schumacher's grand slam accounted for all the scoring.

The Vikings added three runs in the second inning, one run in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning to lock up the sweep.

Schuettpelz was 3-for-3 for the Green Knights, who had six hits. Francesca Marrese started and took the loss for the Green Knights, allowing six hits with seven runs (one earned) in 1 1/3 innings pitched.
