Green Knights Swept by Cornell

DE PERE - St. Norbert College concluded its home double weekend dropping both ends of a Midwest Conference doubleheader by scores of 5-3 and 6-2 to Cornell College at Miron Construction Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

The Green Knights battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the opener. St. Norbert scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run single by Gina Mastrodomenico. The Green Knights tied the game in the sixth inning on an Emily Laufer RBI double to plate Tia Danforth.

Cornell would push across the game-winning runs in the top of the seventh inning on a Jesse Applehans single and a sacrifice fly by Brianna Carney.

Lexi LeCalsey took the loss, allowing 10 hits with three walks and three strikeouts in the complete-game effort. Haley Harmon held St. Norbert to four hits while striking out nine.

In the nightcap, Cornell scored twice in the top of the first but the Green Knights scored twice in the bottom of the third inning to tie the score 2-2 on a two-run single by Amanda Van Handel. The Rams would score twice in each of the fourth and fifth innings to pull away.

Ashley Schuettpelz was 3-for-4 to lead St. Norbert offensively. Kasey Roff took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing 10 hits and three earned runs in four innings pitched.
